Autumn has settled in and the cold weather is settling in for a good few months. Fortunately there are a plethora of dazzling gigs happening across the country to keep your dancing feet heated. This weekend Pretoria’s epic post-rock electro band, kidofdoom, is hitting the Cape for one night at The Assembly. Joining them on stage will be Electrotrash madmen Haezer, rocksters The Plastics and mixters Codec vs The Sound, who will be making their debut at the Assembly. Get your converse ready, it’s going to be one for the books.

kidofdoom, who hail from the restless streets of Pretoria, are unequivocally one of the country’s finest acts. Their music feels like a journey through cosmos. Heavy downbeat grooves and epic chords throb through your bones building before roaring guitar solos blaze like solo flares through the crowd. The band’s passion for music and their hunger for the perfect combination of sounds creates music that’s purely sublime in its complexity and diversity. A truly original act, kidofdoom dismantles traditional boundaries creating the kind of music that frees the feet and the mind. If you’ve never heard them or haven’t seen them perform live, take this opportunity. Recordings are one thing but to witness the power of the band they must be seen in the flesh.

Haezer is a one man wonder act. Born through a fusion of sound genres from punk through to electronica, Haezer is transfiguring the Modern Electro movement with his break-beat industrial punk. He’s one of the founders of the TITES studio/loft parties which were designed for DJs to showcase their skills to industry peers. He remixes local chart toppers such as The Dirty Skirts, Jax Panik and Yesterday’s Pupil into revolutionary electro-dance mixes. His talent is fast making his name the one to drop.

For years HOAX was one of Cape Town’s most well known punk bands. Back when Purple Turtle was ruled by DIY Mohawks and ripped baggy jeans, Sasha and Pascal were regulars on many a gig line up. Since then they’ve mellowed out, broken up HOAX and formed as the chilled rock quartet, The Plastics, accompanied by friends Arjuna and Karl. Their influences are an eclectic mix, ranging from NOFX to Arctic Monkeys. This wide range of styles echoes through their rhythmic songs, gluing themselves to your swaying hips and tapping toes. Their first EP has made its way into the CD players of over 1 000 people, having been distributed for free at shows and selected stores. These boys turn convention on its head defying the current scene trend of skinnys and GHD’d hair. It’s all about the music and the music rocks. Read more on them

The last act on this line-up is an Assembly newcomer, although they’ve been gigging around town for quite a while now. Codec vs The Sound, part of the TITES collective, have been electrifying crowds with their offbeat remixes of local and international bands, from aKING to the Beastie Boys. A relatively fledgling band, great things can be expected from these boys in years to come
Even more exciting is that yesterday saw the Assembly reach a new milestone when they were granted a permanent 4am liquor license. No longer will the party have to stop at 1:45AM as they will finally be able to trade as a music venue should - way into the early dawn. With two extra hours to fill with the finest beats and bands, they're maintaining their status as one of the Cape's finest venues. Friday the 8th of May will be the very first night that they close the doors at 4am and to celebrate this momentous occasion they have invited DJ Magnum Hi-Fi to play the inaugural 2 - 4 slot. Stay on after the bands have headed off stage to toast to a new chapter in the life of the Assembly.
