CELEBRATE! DESIGN THE NEXT ONE SMALL SEED COVER
That’s right! South Africa’s ultimate pop culture reference turns five this October 2010, and in honour of all the talent one small seed has showcased over the last five years, our 5th anniversary issue 20 (sep-oct-nov) will be bursting with extra-special features. A celebration of the great strides one small seed has made since the magazine’s inception in 2005, the 5th anniversary issue is dedicated to South Africans who, like us, celebrate creativity. And so the theme for this edition is: Celebrate.
In light of this, the one small seed team are holding a 5th anniversary issue competition, one which will ignite all those in the creative industry and open doors with the exposure it will generate for creatives. This is your chance to showcase your talent to the rest of the country and the world.
THE COMPETITION
HOW TO ENTER
Only one small seed network members can take part in this competition, so login to one small seed network and join our ever-growing community of creatives! The competition is simple. All you need to do is download the cover template below to create your cover. Throughout the month of June all members have the opportunity to send through, via email, their submissions.
The theme ‘Celebrate’ is whatever it means to you, and how you interpret this is what we want to see. Whether it is a celebration of movement, colour, music, fashion… or simply of life and all its wonder, the concept behind the theme Celebrate is ultimately an expression of fun and positivism, using aesthetic ways to breed enthusiasm and capture energy, colour and passion.
Each member can submit a maximum of four different covers, so this gives you the chance to express the concept in more than one style with a different interpretation.
JUDGING
At the end of June, the one small seed team will collate the best entries and put them up on the one small seed network for all viewers to see. The voting will then be handed over to you! Members will have the month of July to vote, and can each submit two votes. Your votes will determine the top ten submissions. The two entries that come highest in the voting poll will be two of the winning covers. The other two covers will be selected out of the top ten voted in, judged by a panel of creative industry leaders (to be announced at a later date).
IMPORTANT DETAILS
Embracing our philosophy to celebrate individuality, we have left the theme open to interpretation. There are, however, some factors to consider: Make sure your work centres on the theme Celebrate for our 5th anniversary issue. Most importantly, your cover must be original, creative, and striking. Thus, it should not be too ‘busy’ (compositionally), intricate or small – remember it must attract attention from metres away! If your image has a human element (always great to engage viewers), then having eye contact in the image is always better.
To enter, there is an entry package to download, which includes the size specs for our publication, as well as all other entry criteria. Click here to download the entry package. All submissions (maximum FOUR per person) must be emailed to onesmallseed@gmail.com or delivered to one small seed’s new offices, to arrive no later than 30 June 2010.
