A few months have passed since the surfacing of the almost identical works of Stella Im Hultberg and Audrey Kawasaki on the one small seed. Now enters Kelly McKernan, whose own creations could become the third part in a series of near identical works, with their similar colour tones. Her lean forms are slightly edgier, with dark shades that give them an austere manner. Although undoubtedly feminine, her creations bear more internal emotions, which are highly visible in their expressions. Their delicate faces are strikingly lined to show every curve, with just a single vivid colour used to accentuate their looks.

Art and illustration has always been a passion of Kelly McKernan. Living in Georgia, comfortably nestled in Atlanta, she holds a degree in Fine Arts. Although she majored in traditional painting, she has focused on creating her astounding works in mixed media. Trying her gifted hand out at combining film photography and advanced darkroom techniques with water colour painting, her work is magnificent. Using the most natural colours to create her pieces, she concludes each by adding a fine, dark shade to fully capture their forms.

Kelly’s female characters are constructed in various situations, so they can interact with the viewers, through symbolic elements in vague settings. According to her website, the unclear scenes represent the operating consequences of idealism and fantasy due to naivety and youth. The two are said to work as opposing forces. While she exclusively illustrates females, she does change the contrast of some of her creations. Her style changes with each artwork that focuses on a different situation.

The battles that Kelly tackles can be seen in her female subjects. Her lasses blankly stare into space while parts of their bodies assist in creating other images. Strand of hair and pieces of their dresses cleverly continue to create the idealism and fantasy that most people have chosen to live their lives according to. Like all artist who emerge with their unique style of creating their work, Kelly has made a success from her portraits. She has received international recognition for her ladies, showing her work in various galleries in America. For the past two years she has been tackling women issues with her art, which has led her to create intriguing images.
