Ashtray Electric, Cape Town’s electrifying indie sensation, have embarked on a cross country tour to promote their first full length album, Bonjour. The album follows on from their successful 2007 EP The Dave Sessions. The band’s had singles featured on the Levi Young Gun and the Bellville Rock City compilations. The boys have already won over the notoriously difficult Cape Town scene and are now out to win hearts and wallets countrywide.

This year they won the MK Best Newcomer Award, topping the likes of The Pretty Blue Guns and Zebra & Giraffe with their fresh and vibrant sound. Their sound is the result of perfect parts fitting together. Rudi and Reg’s intricate, ethereal guitar riffs thrust over Rupert’s powerful drumwork while Andre’s kinetic vocals tie it all together. They’ve got a song for every movement of the heart, making their repertoire of song one of the most diverse currently on the scene. The achingly soulful ‘Quite Overstared’ will haunt you while the zestfully cheerful ‘Gallop’ will get your feet tapping and your hips swaying.
Recently they completed the video for their new single ‘Quite Overstared’. It’s currently being flighted on MK as well as making an appearance across the net (check it out on one small seed

Bellville Rock City and reached top spot on two Tuks FM charts – the Top 30 as well as the SA Top Ten.

The
Bonjour album tour sees the boys trekking across the country to give those up North a taste of what the Cape’s been savouring for months. Their tour began at the boisterous ‘Not Quite Easter Oppikoppi’ festival and is ripping through several cities in the first two weeks of May. Their final gig of the tour sees them return to the rainy shores of Cape Town on the 16th of May for a night of dancing mayhem at The Assembly. To find out where you can catch them in your city, head on over to
our events page. Also, keep your eye on the site – we’ll be giving away tickets in the upcoming weeks.
